Welcome toΒ The Journal, a Tuesday Wednesday dispatch where I share my musings on all things literary and life. You'll find personal recommendations, reflections, and thoughtfully curated books.

Hello, Bookworms!

Can you smell it? Pumpkin spice season is upon us! Here in Florida, fall means rain and sunshine, with the occasional blazing hot dayβ€”so no sweaters or changing leaves. But I can indulge in fall flavors, so I’m baking pumpkin bread and snickerdoodle cookies, and I might whip up a pumpkin spice latte one of these afternoons.

So, while the weather might still be blazing hot for some of us, I still think it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book. The good news is I have some of the best new fall books I’m recommending you add to your reading list and a few classics that might be on your shelves.

About The 2024 Fall Reading Guide!

In The 2024 Fall Reading Guide, I've handpicked some exciting new books hitting shelves this season that I've read and loved. Each book is organized to help you quickly find your next must-read, and every title comes with a quick elevator pitch to assist you in making the perfect choice. For the new releases, I've included publication dates, though they may change without notice, so please check with your bookseller or librarian.

To make your fall even more fun, don't miss out on The 2024 Fall Reading Challenge! It features three super easy prompts that pair perfectly with the season, encouraging you to explore some books from the guide and your at-home collection.

Since we're all about living a literary lifestyle, and to enhance your autumn, I've sprinkled in some fun fall activities, reading tips, a delicious seasonal recipe to enjoy as you turn the pages, and a playlist for your downtime.

What you can expect inside the guide

The 2024 Fall Reading Guide is a downloadable PDF magazine guide that you can save to your e-reader app or device. The guide includes thirty new books organized across eight categories, three classic novels, a minimalist reading list, tips to help you find time to read, a pumpkin spice cookie recipe, a list of 7 things to do this fall, inspiration for your autumnal music playlist, and a fall reading challenge.

Downloading a copy of the guide is an exclusive for paid subscribers β€” along with the shortlist and fall reading chat video!

The Shortlist

Over the years, readers have asked about books I read and loved, but that didn’t make the final seasonal reading guide. Initially, I didn’t think this would be of interest, but over the past year, I’ve enjoyed putting together β€œThe Shortlist” for you.

The Shortlist is the companion to The 2024 Fall Reading Guide. It includes the 109 books I read, loved, and were being considered for inclusion in the final guide. Also, in The Shortlist, you’ll find bonus categories and genres, plus β€œbooks-like” recommendations for each book I included.

Downloading a copy of The Shortlist is an exclusive for paid subscribers β€” but you can guess a handful from the graphic below!

Fall Reading Chat Video (a Substack community exclusive)

I wanted to add something extra special for readers who support my work, so I did a video walkthrough of The 2024 Fall Reading Guide! I did a rundown of all the 33 books in the guide, shared a more detailed description, and β€œbooks-like” recommendations for eachβ€”some were on the fly and not on The Shortlist.

Watching the Fall Reading Chat is an exclusive for paid subscribers β€” please consider subscribing for more perks and to support my work.
